Waste policy in all government departments

Use an existing template eg WRAP or ask DOI Waste Management to devise a simple policy for reducing waste in every department eg paper, packaging, food.

The message to reduce waste should come from each chief executive and a Waste Champion should be appointed to ensure it happens and encourage people to share ideas.

Why the contribution is important

The policy and message about reducing waste in all its forms needs to be easy to understand and endorsed by the top people. Money is wasted by wasting resources in every department.

This is a very sensible idea.

I think it should be an independent entity to
ensure the risk of government self-interest isn't
at play. Like an independent police complaints commission, it may make it freer from deceit and figure fiddling.

    Reducing waste -
-not buying packaging to just throw it away - eg sandwich containers, takeaway cutlery, cups etc.
-not paying to dispose of the waste
    - reduce food waste in catering facilities - ie buying food to throw away
-unnecessary printing - buying paper then recycling it / confidential waste
    - recycling policies on furniture, equipment etc.
