TT Museum

The Isle of Man is renowned world wide for the TT.  When travelling abroad the first thing most people say when they find out that I live on the Isle of Man is..." aah yes, the TT Races".  Over the years, I have met many overseas visitors as well as members of my own family and one recurring comment is to voice surprise that we do not have a permanent TT Heritage Centre / Museum.  To illustrate this, I recently spoke to some German visitors who were walking around a deserted Grandstand.  It turned out that they were hoping to visit a TT Museum and buy some memorabilia.

I suggest that DED put some serious consideration into helping tp provide a museum at the Grandstand to serve as a year round focus for TT.

Why the contribution is important

Although not a money saving idea, my suggestion would encourage more tourism and generate additional income, building on our existing global reputation as the "Home of Road Racing"

Excellent idea - I have been campaigning for a TT Museum/Experience for years & years, & I do believe DED Minister Laurence Skelly is now pretty much fully on board with the idea

The 'TT Experience' can earn a good deal of money for the island by making a cut down version of the Experience available to paying aficionados as an IOM hosted online Virtual Reality/ Augmented Reality racing/gaming event

Good idea BUT it's about saving not spending money.

Maybe the private sector or volunteers could pick it up?

No, only government could sustain this size of investment - but it will undoubtedly pay back with profit

Added to which, the TT is a national asset

    It's about saving money.

Nice idea but no money available.

We already have the motor museum in Jurby, it would be foolish for the gov to compete, better to work with and expand their bike display.

Great idea. Ultimately a revenue generator from our strongest brand. Given the failed outsourcing of TT only way this may be achieved is with government capitial investment. The obvious route is asking Manx National Heritage to put business case forward and redevelop the outdated Grandstand. My only proviso is that is must be an attraction and not just a static museum which always has limited appeal. This is the difference with the Jurby Motor (not TT) museum - how many times you been back to visit? Other being that if it's using TT it needs authenticity with event and there is no other better site than Grandstand.
