what about training our prison staff on island where we have our own training department / C& R instructors and of course our laws are different to the UK . We are able to train our police force and fire service here on the Island  so why not do the same with prison staff

Why the contribution is important

the training would be more in line with our laws and regulations here than in Uk

we have a training suite

we have C& R instructors based here

we can teach first aid here

Also the cost has to be considered as well  it must cost thousands of pounds per person to send away

The Police train on Island now.

The Fire and Rescue Service now have a hot fire training complex that saves sending staff off Island (but all recruits are still sent to Morton in the Marsh for 12 weeks I believe) this is despite the Fire and Rescue Service having a Training department.

    Not sure about Paramedics.

All in all a good Idea especially where there are many highly paid training officers, maybe this could be an idea that could SAVE IOM Gov some money with some thought and some strong MHK leadership and not departmental heads saying its historically never been done!
