Stop wastage on medicines

Sometimes my medicine tablets dont always agree with me because of the side affects. When the doctor gives me a new pill for a month I ask the chemist to give me a 1 week and keep the rest until I see how I go. If they are okay I can pick up the rest, if not they dont end up in my cupboard wasted.

Why the contribution is important

There must be someway you could adapt this method to stop the waste.

This is a good idea if you have a Pharmacy willing to keep back 3 weeks supply, but some folk would not bother to contact them to say it didn't suit and to cancel the rest of the script.Would create a lot of problems for Pharmacies and what about the Doctor reviewing new meds as they are supposed to? They should use in house Supplementary and Independent prescribers(usually nurses) to help review new meds and save Doctors time too.
Pharmacies have to get paid for items dispensed and I can't see them wanting a backlog of prescriptions waiting for patients to contact them so they know how much to claim for e.g. 28 tablets instead of the stated 56 on prescription.
I work in a Pharmacy and we have enough problem trying to get people to pick up the medicine they should be taking, let alone trying to track a confusing array of partially filled prescriptions.Legally I think we have to supply the amount the Doctor indicates and it should be a health professional that decides with the patient the benefit versus side effect outcome.
