Save university tuition fees - don't subsidize English universities

Almost unknown, students from all over the world, not just from the EU, can study at no or low costs in Europe: Germany, France, Spain, Greece, Italy, Norway, Iceland...

Running an information campaign at schools and for parents about cost free alternatives, instead of just inviting costly British universities to an information day, could help several Manx students. IOMG should avoid subsidizing British universities with IOM taxpayers' money.

While learning a foreign language should be a motivation and not a barrier, there are more and more full English studies offered at foreign universities - meanwhile even in France. Inform the Manx residents!

Why the contribution is important

Not a silver bullet for every university student - but a real alternative to avoid student loans.

100 students x 9,000 GBP p.a.

That's almost 1 million GBP p.a.

This is one option that Manx students should be aware of, however, it will not alone solve the problem of international fees for university courses in the UK and high costs for students and their families. One innovative means of retaining young people on the island may be to discount/write off student fees against tax paid by the student on their return. That way students who return to work on the island would end up paying their university tuition fees through their taxes. The island has a declining birthrate and a 16-34 age group that are leaving the island in part due to high student tuition fees and lack of opportunities. We need instead to incentivise this age group to return to the Island and so provide a stable income base for the future.
