Review tax office practices

For the past few years we have received a tax demand after assessment for less than 10 p ! We will not be alone! Surely they can write off tax demands for under £1 on economic grounds that it costs more to collect them.

on another front a millionaire- never submits his tax on time as the fine is so small !

    The Treasury Minister responded to a question on this matter in the House of Keys during October 2016. The Assessor of Income Tax is statutorily obliged to issue an assessment notice showing income, allowances, deductions and the amount of tax due and payable irrespective of whether or not an outstanding balance exists. However, the response goes on to state that where the outstanding balance is less than £10 no subsequent demands or reminders are issued.

    Amend the law to include a de minimis amount then .... one line of new text versus waste of money on printing, staff, postage, paper and if some one pays 10p by cheque, about £70 in admin costs!
