Ramsey cottage hospital is great resource for north and should have similar in south at Port Erin - is there 2 southlands? If so, wider utilisation of these facilities for non critical medical services has to benefit the outlining community and expect savings can be made via efficiencies of these more localised services.

Whilst it is 'nice' and convenient for the north of the island to have a hospital it is not conducive to the efficient delivery of care.

There are many reasons not to undertake any surgical proceedures there and the duplication of services such as blood clinic, physio, minor injuries would be more efficiently delivered where everything needed is together in one place.

Nobles has everything in one place, a respite unit could be made from existing closed wards or built at a fraction of the long term costs of maintaining Ramsey CH

The difficulty recruiting adequate numbers of qualified staff to cover all posts throughout the health service, particularly nurses, could be eased somewhat if there was no necessity to also staff RCH. The costs of maintaining the building, duplication of services and staff make little financial sense. The only real arguement for keeping the hospital open purely emotional.

Discounting any social issues I always thought that the building of `new` Nobles would mean the eventual closure of Ramsey Cottage Hospital. It would be interesting to see if any one has worked out what it costs these days to run 2 Hospitals for 80,000 people.

Just reminding everyone that Ramsey Minor Injury Unit is open to the whole Island. If you are suffering from a minor injury and can travel just head up North to Ramsey for faster care and reduce the load on Nobles.
