Privatise MUA

MUA should be privatised by way of AIM or FTSE 250 market or sold to an established utility company. The current debt is not sustainable in view of size of other problems facing this and future administrations. The Public Sector Pension crisis being an example!!

Local Authorities must be merged to create further efficiency on the Island.

If the monopoly for electricity supply was also broken I would be in favour of this. Trouble is the taxpayer would still take a huge loss unless the banks whose lending put the MEA into debt agreed to take a haircut.

Would the £500 million + current debt be cleared by a sale of the MEA? Probably not.

Maybe we have to increase the utilisation of the past overspend by exporting much more than the small amount of electricity currently sold off island.
