Private medical insurance

Give a NI break to Businesses giving private medical insurance to employees. Make the private medical insurance the default when having treatment and save the NHS for those that can't afford it.

Why the contribution is important

Let the insurance companies take the burden off the NHS, save the taxpayer funded service for those that need it.

By streamlining the services and operations paid for under the NHS for free it makes a lot of sense to encourage the take up of an Island based medical insurance scheme that would ensure treatment of other conditions would be met by insurers and not by the Governemnt /NI contributions.

There is a similar arguement about lower taxation for families who send their children to private schools.

20-30% of the island's population has private health insurance - this may lose the Govt a fair bit of money.

This sort of thing increases inequality and creates a two tier system. Discuss...

Streamlining of Hospital services is already taking place. In time it may be that almost everyone takes out medical insurance to pay for healthcare beyond the limited service offered by the NHS. One has to start somewhere, we are in debt and an ageing society. A government initiated and run scheme would ensure the money stays on the island.
