Open Biosphere Centre At Knockaloe

Create an IOM Biosphere Centre Of Excellence at Knockaloe to develop the ideas contained in the original Biosphere application & the subsequent IOM Government Biosphere pledge, to develop sustainable green enterprise across our island community

Knockaloe was purchased & donated to the nation for a very similar purpose - he'd be proud to see it developed in this way

Some of the suggestions for Pilates Heritage Centre might also be incorporated

Could help solve the agricultural issues brought about by #Brexit that Chief Minister mentioned in House of Keys 11.04.17

Here is a little more detail in the context of the Pledge principles:

           * Protecting our natural resources – this could relate to anything you’re trying to do better that will impact positively on our natural resources, from managing water use to planting trees.

         * Developing our economy in a sustainable way – doing business responsibly, balancing the need for growth with respect for our natural, social and cultural environment. Responsible businesses tend to be more resilient, contributing to a diverse economy which is more sustainable than a ‘monoculture’ economy.

          * Supporting and promoting our cultural heritage – for example, staff involvement in, or corporate sponsorship of, cultural events and groups.

            * Making our environmental impact positive wherever possible – closely related to the first principle of protecting our natural resources, this could include anything from energy saving and waste management measures to support of local environmental projects.

            * Engaging with the local community – through environmental, social or community groups, whichever fit best with your business. You’ll find a wide range of groups listed under ‘Who is involved?’ on the Environmental/Cultural, Community and Educational pages.

           * Promoting our outstanding living landscapes through active involvement with Biosphere Isle of Man – being an ambassador for the project and advertising the fact that you support it, thereby encouraging others to get involved.

How does that actually save money though?

The Chief Minister is looking for ideas to grow the economy as well as saving £25m - I would remove farming or 'agricultural' grants from rich farmers - especially the ones in Tynwald - to finance this project, perhps roll DEFA into it too

It could also be used as a local food and drink hub - cafe with food sourced locally and shop selling local crafts and gifts etc.

But unfortunately, it doesn't save Govt any money!

Nah - total tosh. Get rid of all DEFA. Biosphere staff

You could sit a long time in a cafe out at Knockaloe waiting for somebody to come in for the odd cup of coffee. It would hardly be a money spinner.

Knockaloe is an excellent location for a Rheged Centre type attraction which could generate income for the Government encompassing education; play areas; adult conference facilities; exhibitions and accomodation.

won't matter, the isle of man will be empty soon anyway, they have managed to get all the young manx people to leave so they will have to ask what all the english youngsters want as thats who they want to fill it with.

This won't save money, it's a luxury we can't afford.

There've been a lot of good ideas generated with this process, not all of them generating costs savings

Considerable cost savings will be made with the creation of an independent Office Of Budget Responsibility to knock heads together & ensure our messy, unco-ordinated SILO government is brought under financial control
