Management Staff in Government

Top heavy management in so many areas of Government but in the past it is the management that have been asked to make savings and obviously turkeys are not going to vote for Christmas. I am not generally in favour of outside consultants and their subsequent cost but I think if you were going to cull unnecessary management tiers in Government, of which there are many, I can't see any other way than to have the situation looked at independently.

Why the contribution is important

Even with consultants fees, it would still save a huge amount in the end to dispense with unnecessary management layers.

You are bang on Senior Managers in the Civil Service have a strong sense of looking after themselves.

    To thin them out:
    1. No pay rises SEO and above
    2. Tax pension lump sum payments

I can see a number naturally leaving before they get hit.

    3. Be ruthless in filling the number of replacements. i.e. Don't automatically recruit.

    4. If you stay, you get to manage more.

Some areas seem to suffer from inadequate management, with individual managers having so thinly spread that they can't do their jobs properly, especially where they have specialised jobs to do as well.
