IOM Gov should not pay for Uni courses if they are offered at UCM (IOM)

It will be cheaper to manage and grow courses here, students will stay on Island.  The money saved can be invested in the UCM to grow more courses.

Why the contribution is important

Less debt for students as they can stay at home, more support available.

They are more likely to stay after Graduation if they study here.  (Less likely for brain drain)

Really it's impportant for our brightest young to get off the island & experience the world

I am concerned that we are not investing fully in those graduate students who need to take Masters degrees to fully qualify

Offer courses that are of use to people not 'Manx history' and other indulgent tosh. Manx Law,Manx politics and financial degrees are what's needed or offer Bursary schemes to tie students into returning to us for at least a while after graduation.
Ask the Islanders what they would like to have as courses.I think one would be amazed at the amount of middle aged mature students that would reply AND apply if the right things were available.More to the money saving point, their fees would subsidise the young folks learning and everybody wins!
Many older Teachers would be happy to teach on the Island, and when people have paid for the privelege of learning, the problems of disruptive students evaporates. When I did 2 'A' levels a few years ago, there was absolutely no trouble whatsoever despite it being a mixture of us oldies and young students. In fact,we all bonded really well and had a laugh together.
