IMPROVE POST OFFICE PROFITABILITY

Electronic comms has dramatically reduced printed letter volumes and private delivery services have acquired parcel delivery. Has the post office re-aligned services as a consequence?

Reduce postal deliveries Island wide to three per week. Increase letter rates postage by at least 2p.

There's no longer a sense of urgency to receive a reduced volume of correspondence,
and usually prices increase in relation to lower volumes. Halve the number of postal deliveries delivering to area A mon wed Fri and area B tues thurs Sat (One could then aggressively quote for parcels deliveries with spare capacity until it's shrunk)

Why the contribution is important

A 40% reduction in variable costs and a 5% increase in revenue from postage rates. Say £1.5m

This suggestion does have a lot of merit. Well done GavinIOMGov
I would happily accept an alternative day delivery so that the number of post delivery personal could be reduced. How frequently are the majority of people dependent upon a daily delivery?
Big savings would also clearly be made on the reduction of vans including running and replacement costs as well as insurances and road tax and fuel. It would also please the environmentalist.
A further considerable saving could be made by either charging extra for self adhesive stamps or reverting back to the original gummed type.
Self adhesive have got to cost four or five times as much to print.

There's no doubt revenue must be falling for all post offices and believe reduced delivery is worthy of serious consideration. However, I'd suggest mataining the week day service and drop Saturday as business rarely needs Saturday service. Expect significant saving can be achieved by moving to 5 day a week service with minimal impact. Also believe post offices need to expand services they provide as new revenue is vital for their survival. Why dont they consider partnering with a bank as they seem be disappearing from this Island or that new credit union.

I do agree that daily deliveries should be cut back to 3 a week or even scrapped altogether which would force the public to attend their local Post Office thus bringing them back as an important social contact point. Obviously special arrangements would have to made for certain customers.
