Gov Vehicle Fleet

Government vehicle fleet requires assessing – many of our vehicles, especially all the 4 x 4’s in use in many departments – is this high spec required? Why do we need so many 4 x 4’s? Many of these are taken home – and used privately – why is that?

Indeed, the tendency of taxpayer funded divisions (such as the bus service) to buy new vehicles instead of maintain existing fleets must be addressed.. I read the last fleet of buses were sold on to a company in Blackpool where they continue to provide service after being put through a maintenance programme.

Very shiny vehicles also often parked outside the fire station, e.g. a very modern looking mobile command unit - how often is that expected to be used???

I also struggle to see why every government department seems to have a brand new fleet. Are 40k? 4x4s necessary for the likes of the DOI & the Civil Defense?
