Empty rates

rates should  be paid on empty building the same as UK

Why the contribution is important

There are a lot of empty decaying properteis which are a problem to neighbours. By paying rates, it may give an incentive to sell

    This should also include development sites and plots

    Planning needs to be sorted out first, you can't penalise people who are trying to build when neighbours or the dept are blocking planning approval.

    Rates are payable on empty properties courtesy of Section 8 of the Rating and Valuation (Amendment) Act 1991. Buildings beyond use are not subject to rates but long term dilapidated buildings can be served a notice by the local authority and that notice enables not only for the building to be repaired but rates demanded and paid.
