Cost of the Governor to the iom

Look at the direct and indirect costs to the taxpayer of this position- Peter Karren asked the cost of running the Governor house over 20 years ago and i recall over 500K then, how much does this house and man waste of tax payers money these days. Recently they advertised for a social secretary i think, can his wife not do this and save 30 k. I bet its over a million a year now so lets see the figure pubished with a view to trim this severly.

Why the contribution is important

We want value for money so we need to see what we are getting

Not against this idea as such, but the comment about the governor's wife being able to be the secretary is a little chauvinistic

I believe the present one is pretty good but i am sure his good lady could organise his appointments- if you want to save money it all helps. If it was 1/2 million in Peter Karrens time over 20 years ago, you can bet it is a million now, some of this money we have a better use for

How about if the UK wants us to have its representative here they pay for them

Agree with last contributor, why should we pay for the Queens representative? Shouldn't they also provide him with a social secretary? Sure they must have a spare one at Buck House who fancies a couple of years in the Colonies.
I have nothing personal against the Govenor, they all seem like quite nice people, but the cost does need looking in to and maybe the Englsh government should pay for the privelege not us.
Does he even need to live here?He could just fly over every few months and cut a couple of ribbons and fly off again, maybe job share with the Govenor of another Island nation or just run the place from Whitehall or his estate in Wiltshire....Its all rather archaic really but the cost has kept up with the times even if the post is historic.

£500k for coffee morning attendee.....let me think about this one! Expect there's some reason about crown dependency we need one but do we really. If our relations with U.K. are so great then if they want a governeor (we don't) then they should pay for him and all his minions.
