Close Ramsey Cottage Hospital

This is a big soak on costs for very little benefit. The island would save on staffing and running costs and would aslo have an asset in the building. The staff could be deployed to Nobles or elsewhere in Government. I believe we can nop longetr afford this facility.

Why the contribution is important

The cost of running this venture would save half the cost savings we are looking for

Don't think so, the hospital provides essential services and my daughter would have died from an asthma attach had the hospital not been open. Also both my parents have been in the Cottage at some point so working and with a family having the hospital near really helped rather than having to travel to Nobles. I do however feel it is under utilised. It is already impossible to park at Nobles without more cars coming from Ramsey. Not everything should be centralised.
I feel it relieves some of the stress from Nobles as well.

Don't agree, as above it needs to be better utilised - it could possibly be used as a step up and step down rehabilitation unit and to better support Noble's hospital. Also the flow of transfers from Nobles to Ramsey needs reviewing as I've heard from friends that there are problems getting patients accepted via the Ramsey GP's.

How can we say centralise and shut Ramsey hospital when ther is not enough beds at Nobles now?
It's a long way from Ramsey when you are ill or have an acute heart problem or stroke. It definately needs reviewed but not to close it,make it more efficient! Ask the staff for pity's sake, they know more than any government wallah who sees it as a paper exercise not a living entity that is important to the very lives of Ramsey residents.
Cost wise,it would be far more expensive if it was shut and more transport/paramedical staff needed to compensate the loss, but in human terms, the cost would be infinite and deadly. As for it being sold off as an asset? To be what exactly? If more people go to live there, the need for a local hospital would be greater not lower.False economy.

The staff would not transfer. Simple they would vote with there feet. We would love a Southern Cottage hospital rather than have to travel to Nobles, when you are really ill travel is an issue for patient and family both in time, cost and comfort.
