I think this was already suggested?

It doesn't look like people are checking previous suggestions before adding their own?

Recover costs of missed appointments by amending the patient's tax code with a lower figure to reflect the cost of a missed appointment e.g current tax code 1050F reduced by 2 missed hospital appointments = 1000F. The cost of a missed hospital appointment is more than £10. The details of each missed appointment could be entered onto a spreadsheet and sent to the tax office on a monthly basis. Once a person sees that they are losing several hundred pounds on missed appointments they'll soon start attending. The money could then be put back into the health service and used to employ additional staff so the waiting lists could be addressed.

There are many reasons people miss hospital appointments and this would need to be taken into consideration if charging was to be implemented and support put in place where necessary to help people attend.
