Airport Parking suggestion

I would investigate the removal of all hedges, plantings and kerb edgings in the two public carparks at Ronaldsway.

This would have the following benefits:

1. Significantly reduce gardening/maintenence costs for non-essential planted areas.

2. Increase footprint to be available for parking spaces (potential to increase parking revenue)

Why the contribution is important

It is simple and both saves money whilst giving the potential to increase parking revenues.

there is enough parking space as it is, and removing greenery would the airport look very bleak.
keep in mind that the airport is the first thing people see when they arrive, and the last thing they see when they leave, so its important to leave a nice impression.

I agree, that is why the suggestion was for the car parks and not the area immediately in front of main entrance (Legs of Man feature)

One of the original planning conditions was that the car park should not look like a car park, so the greenery was a requirement. However, removing the internal areas of overgrown bushes would certainly improve both the look of the area and the security. The money saved on not having to then tend to the regenerated areas could then be used to improve the look of the outer areas bordering the main road.
With regard to making more space for use as a car park - there is currently no need as the prices charged are being undercut by third party car park providers who offer additional services such as vehicle washing as part of the price. To increase revenue, it would be worth REDUCING car park charges to encourage use rather than drive users away!

Unkempt non native bushes at the car park do nothing to add to the impression of the island upon arrival/departure. A better choice of hedging and islands of native shrubs and flowers would be more in keeping, they could be sponsored for a little advertising revenue and allow vehicles to park more easily.

Charging in the airport car parks doesn't make sense - the maximum charge in the short and long term car parks is £60 no matter how long you stay. The maximum charge in the short term park should be higher than the maximum in the long term one.

Is the airport parking scheme covering its costs?

Too many bushes taking up too much space. The 30 min disc limit should be increased to 60 mins. Orange Disabled Badge signs are years out of date and need changing.
