24 hr Telemedicine triage system

Doctors surgery nurses/MEDS could use telemedicine to assess/ triage patients to see whether they should see the GP, practice nurse, or admission to A&E - this can be done on-island. With the new Patient Access, the summary record can shared with the nurse by any patient, not just restricted to that practice

Why the contribution is important

Stop unnecessary appointments/ MEDS callouts, saving time and costs.

My concern would be the increased risk of misdiagnosis on rare occasions for potentially fatal conditions such as sepsis and meningitis and where records do not help with the diagnosis.

Nah - the risk wayout balances the savings.

Sick people want to see someone who can help them, not a machine or someone trained just to ask a list of questions.A lot of diagnosis is visual, pallor, cyanosis of lips, heightened colour, clamminess of skin, heart rate and regularity/irregularity so we need actual people triaging with the person sat in front of them or misdiagnosis increases. Also a lot of elderly or not 'tech savvy' folks can be intimidated by this and afraid to interact with new stuff. The whole process of seeing a Doctor has become too complicated. There are people 'lurking' within the NHS who have no useful purpose and have created a space for themselves under some long and impressive title which no one understands . A look at the ratio of managers to actual clinical staff would show up what is wrong.managers sending endless memos to each other to justify their existence whilst staff struggle to fit a quart into a pint pot.Top down 'culling' of these and making those left account for their time in real terms of productivity would save tens of thousands in manpower and red tape.
