Police existing laws

Pointless looking for the next thing to improve road safety when existing laws are not enforced! I see examples of the below regularly.

Speeding in built up areas

Not wearing seatbelts

Double parking, especially on Douglas prom. In fact parking illegally.

Using a mobile phone at the wheel.

Why the contribution is important

No point in making rules unless they will be enforced. They will be ignored pretty much the same way some road users ignore the current set!

Absolutely agree. When people see other drivers getting away with openly breaking the laws of the road and getting away with it they start to think it's ok to behave like that on our roads. Parking on double yellows is particularly bad at the moment.

I agree the current rules need to be policed better. For persistent offenders penalty points should be racked up quickly and licence lost for a short period. Loss of licence, would be a better deterrent than a financial penalty. Holding a driving licence is a privilege, but only seems to be taken off people for serious misdemeanours, and then its like removing one of their human rights.

Completely agree existing laws need to be enforced better but this will require educating the enforcers on all aspects of vehicle use eg cars/ motorcycles/ commercial vehicles/ agricultural vehicles /construction and use regulations /weight limits etc etc
also removal of exemption letters issued by government departments to certain companys example being overweight vehicles allowed on roads with weight limit according to letter carried by drivers issued by DOI

The force is a broken organisation and cannot be trusted to deliver. We suffer highly dangerous roads due to their lack of enforcement.
This is not about numbers, this is about priorities. Our police simply don’t have the will or imagination to act.

Shorter term license loss. What a good idea! Make you think twice about texting when moving your ton of metal.

Lets show initiative as an island to stop what we all know is wrong
