Park and ride

Govt actually takes the topic seriously invests in the safety of IOM community, buy some land outside Douglas, as that is the busiest place for work/commuting, and make a route in/out purely for pedestrians and cyclists.

The vehicles could be parked and an additional area, lit and covered by CCTV for the parking of cycles that would be under cover. Relativley cheap to do, easy to maintain, provides security measures

Why the contribution is important

It hits a number of factors:

-seperates motor vehicles and cyclists

-seperates motor vehicles and pedestrians

-reduces congestion

-frees up parking space

-less pollution

-saves people money (less fuel, parking)

-exercise for people

-increases their health / wellbeing

-reduces long term impact on health service

I can't see a single reason why this should not be done. It is a win, win, win. Get it done People in Power.

The little minibuses being used in Laxey throughout the summer are very much appreciated especially when it’s raining.

It would be good to have a similar system in Peel where we have many holidaymakers.

This might seem a separate subject but it would certainly help avoid congestion and parking issues in Peel if we had a minibus going regularly from old peel up to new Peel via the cathedral for visitors and disabled people in particular.

Like this idea but it would have to be more convenient and cheaper than driving a private vehicle. All about inducing the behaviours you want to see!

Yes allow people to drive part way then walk or cycle the remainder. Free secure parking is a good incentive. The final part of the route must feel safe and give a pleasant experience. Can we get a nice route from the NSC car park at Pulrose Bridge through Hills Meadow to North Quay. Old railway line perhaps?

Think this is a good idea. Could we use the old Summerland site? Its an eye sore in its current state. The prom is a perfect safe link to Douglas.
