Farmers take responsibility for cleaning up their mud deposits

Farmers tend to leave a lot of mud on the roads due to agricultural machinery using the highways. Its accepted that it is inevitable but they should have to take responsibility and clean up as best they can or at least make a valid attempt to do so. Maybe there should be an agreement put in place so that the highways division road sweeper can attend on an as and when required basis. Im sure the Farmers supplements would cover costs. Do Farmers actually tax their machinery for road use? Im not sure.

Why the contribution is important

Muddy roads can be like driving on an ice rink and its especially hazardous for motorcycles.

Farmers using agricultural tractors to transport plant equipment over the road network, the size of these outfits and over greater distances is resulting in more roads being impacted , how is this policed with regard to licences , vehicle weights etc .
If these machines are being used off the farmstead then comparable commercial road tax should apply rather than the cheap rates using the agricultural band
