Cycle training available for all children (and adults):

Cycle training available for all children:

Putting (UK Dept. for Transport recommended) Bikeability training on the school curriculum would ensure a much higher uptake of training and gives children a vital life skill.

Bikeability offers 3 progressive skill levels and should also be available to adults.

Why the contribution is important

Understanding safety skills such as ‘primary road position’ and riding past car door zones will give our future drivers a better understanding of people cycling.

IoM Cycling support Bikeability training for all children as part of the school curriculum. This is a much higher standard than the ‘cycling proficiency’ test and guves future drivers a better understanding of the issues faced by people who cycle.

Bikeability training has 3 progressive levels and is available for adults. I know the IoM Road Safety Team have made progress with instructor training but we believe it should be part of the KS2 curriculum.
