Automatic re-testing of inexperienced drivers involved in traffic offences

Re-testing of inexperienced drivers

RTC data shows that drivers who have recently passed their test, cause more accidents and casualties than experienced and mature drivers. There are a number of ways that road and policing policy can help prevent road accidents involving inexperienced drivers.

If the police intervene with a driver within the first two years of them being granted a licence, for example if they are caught speeding, they should automatically be required to pass their test again.

Why the contribution is important

This is a simple and enforceable method of detecting inexperienced drivers whose standard of driving is a danger to other road users.
