Recover economic cost of providing health care during race periods

The IOM Health Services is very stretched during the TT and Feastival of Motor Cycling period. The general impression is that many non urgent activities provided by the Hospital is wound down in the lead up to and during these events to the detriment of the Manx public.

Manx residents benefit from a reciprocal emergency health care treatment arrangement with the UK but not (to the best of my knowledge) with the EU or wider world  but we treat visitors and TT riders from around the globe during the race periods.

The Health Department should ensure that it recovers the full economic cost of treating the riders injured during the Races on closed roads. I assume this will be through private insurance. It must be very expensive!

In addition we should be recovering the full cost of treating visitors to the Island who do not have reciprocal arrangements for health care. I assume this to be all outside the UK and for those from the UK only emergency treatment would be covered and not the full convalescent period.

We may already be doing this but when I asked the question a year ago during the health services future funding debate I was promised a reply but I am still waiting for a response, so maybe we don't recover the costs!

Why the contribution is important

The Health Service facilities are funded by the Manx public so if it used by other potential payers the costs should be recovered.

Not only TT. Look to recover all health costs (inc A & E) from all those who are based overseas. Also, those who come to live here from EU and International, and who have been resident for less than 10 years.

    Reciprocal agreement aside.
All road users including TT competitors and Cyclists should each be insured for each car, motorcycle or cycle so in event of accident insurance is there for government or individual to claim against.

Ensure that surgical procedures of Private Patients are in no way delayed by the current requirement to reserve theatre space at Nobles Hospital for the treatment of injuries sustained by those participating in road races such as, but not limited to, the TT and the Manx Grand Prix.

Visitors to the IOM should have to pay in full
