Organised or dangerous sport/sporting events should be required to hold insurance

Any dangerous/contact sports or racing events (I.e. Rugby, road racing, etc.) should be covered by insurance held by the sporting or event organiser as any injuries that occur at such events are currently resolved at the expence of the tax payer.

If you are willing to partake in something where you are actively aware of the risks of potential injury, it should be up to the organiser of the event to insure such event so the healthcare system/tax payer isn't left to the pick up the costs.

An example of this would be, each football season, the football clubs can buy some form of insurance policy for the year which can then be disbursed to the players within their annual club fees. Then, any injury picked up during the football season can be treated within the healthcare system with the costs being reimbursed by the organisers insurer. Or if it was a 'one-off' event, the organiser can include some form of entry fee in order to purchase the appropriate insurance cover.

From my understanding, it is like this in many areas across Europe, so why is it not the case here?

You can even further extend this by creating a new department to remove and deal with these insured sporting injuries so that those sick through no fault of their own don't sit in a longer queue, waiting for their treatment.

Why the contribution is important

This is important because so much of tax payers money is being spent on treating injuries from sporting and racing events, when the injury is being picked up by those who are actively putting themselves at risk. This shouldn't be funded from the same funds that are used by people who are sick from no fault of their own.

I note that I am not against sport at all, which is why I think it should be insured so that insurance providers pay for these injuries.

    Really disagree with this idea.

I'm not sure where you would draw the line. I could almost see the argument for some things (rallying, TT etc) but absolutely not for sports.

I don't think people should be punished for keeping fit.

I can't imagine the odd acute injury is likely to cost close to years of treatment for diseases for illnesses caused by lack of exercise.

From my experience with different sporting organisations they invariably do have insurance cover provision as part of the fees process. This is cover for serious long term injuries resulting in loss of work , being paralysed etc
Everyday sporting injuries should be covered by DHSC, it’s all part of promoting healthy lifestyle for everyone

There should be insurance for dangerous sporting events to avoid expenses on tax payer.
